A Beautiful Day for the Hurlbut Woods Trail Opening
Last Sunday, April 28th, the Roxbury Land Trust celebrated the grand opening of the Hurlbut Woods Trail located at the Hurlbut Woods Preserve off of Lower County Road. Donated by Howard and Kathleen Bronson of Maple Bank Farm in December 2020, the 14-acre preserve (and its trail) boasts seasonal views of Roxbury, a stream, and several vernal pools.
The celebration kicked off with special remarks from Dr. John Smoliga, Roxbury Land Trust President; Patrick Roy, First Selectman of Roxbury; and Cathleen Bronson who recalled favorite childhood memories of how she and her family (the Hurlbuts) both stewarded the land and explored the many forested trails. Approximately 35 people walked the new trail after a formal ribbon cutting.
The day attracted community and comradeship while invoking wonderful memories for Howard and Cathleen Bronson and the Hurlbut family. The Roxbury Land Trust was elated to have a beautiful day to celebrate this one-mile, loop trail while honoring this special gift by the Bronson and Hurlbut family.
