In celebration of Connecticut Trail Days, the Roxbury Land Trust is hosting a guided hike of its historic Mine Hill Preserve on Saturday, June 6 at 10:00 am.
Recognized on the National Register of Historic Places, Mine Hill Preserve is the site of a 19th-century iron mine and furnace complex. The Roxbury Land Trust acquired the 360-acre preserve in 1978 and restored and stabilized the stone and brick structural remains of the furnace complex.
Roxbury Land Trust board members will lead the group along the historic Donkey Trail, talking about the former mining operation and bat hibernacula that now exist in the underground mines.
Please wear appropriate shoes for a two-mile moderate to strenuous walk with some steep inclines and declines. Inclement weather will cancel the event, with a rain date of Sunday, June 7.
Participants should meet in the Mine Hill Preserve parking lot located at 32 Mine Hill Road in Roxbury.
