Tunnel Road Connector Hike Saturday, September 27, 2025 @ 11:00AM – 2:00 PM Steep Rock Preserve, 2 Tunnel Road, Washington Depot
Join Steep Rock Association (SRA) and Roxbury Land Trust (RLT) on a 4.5mile hike along Tunnel Road. This town road, which connects protected lands owned by the two organizations, offers incredible scenery for a fall outing.
The program will start at SRA’s main Steep Rock Preserve parking lot next to the riding ring (2 Tunnel Road, Washington, CT). Hiking south along the Shepaug River, we will pass through the Tunnel and under power lines that mark Steep Rock Preserve’s southern boundary. Once entering Judd’s Bridge valley in Roxbury, we will ascend Battle Swamp Road to hook up with RLT’s Battle Swamp Brook Preserve. Its cascading creek will lead us to the preserve’s parking lot, at which point we will be shuttled back to Washington.
Participants should wear appropriate footwear for a moderate hike with one steep climb and have plenty of water on hand. Poor weather will postpone the program until the following day, Sunday, September 29th.
All ages are welcome, but please take note of the hike’s length. Registration is required due to shuttle capacity. Please register using the link provided here, email [email protected] or call (860) 350-4148.
PROGRAM LEADERS: Rory Larson (SRA’s Land Steward and Program Leader) and Jamie Curren (RLT’s Land and Property Manager) are Roxbury natives who work ardently to enhance the quality of preserved land in the region.
