Join us as we celebrate the anniversary of 45 years of Mine Hill being recognized as a National Historic Place. We are planning a day that starts off with a guided hike of the Mine Hill Preserve, followed by an educational Train Talk at Mine Hill Distillery and a picnic on the lawn by the falls. We will also have lunch options provided by Backwoods Dawgz if you don’t want to pack your own and music to enjoy from Willie & Jan.
Please register for the 9:00am CT Trails Day – Join Kelsey Leach, Northwestern Regional High School Science Teacher and John Smoliga, RLT President of Roxbury Land Trust and Geologist for an informative talk on the history of Mine Hill. Kelsey Leach has been a secondary science teacher at Northwestern Regional High School for 13 years. She enjoys bringing her geology class on hiking trips so her students can connect with they are learning in the classroom. Kelsey’s favorite hike is Mine Hill Preserve because it is exciting to watch the students experience the iron making complex and understand how the geology of a region can shape a community and an industry. This hike is approximately 3 miles long with moderate difficulty. Please wear appropriate footwear and insect repellant.
Eat, Hike, Enjoy Roxbury!
