“Vernal Pool-ooza Talk” @ Minor Memorial Library
Minor Memorial Library
23 South Street, Roxbury CT
That “wicked big puddle” in the woods could be more than just a big puddle – it might just be a vernal pool! Carol Haskins, Executive Director from the Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition will present an informative talk about how to identify a vernal pool and why these springtime wetlands so special within the local ecosystem. Most importantly, you’ll learn which organisms – certain species of frogs, salamanders, and invertebrates – will ONLY use vernal pools to raise their young. Haskins will also highlight efforts being made by local conservation organizations to protect these important wetlands.
